This is the second set of minifigures I have ever got from the OK Minifigures brand. The first OK Minifigures set I got was the Ant-Man set and I was not impressed with the quality of the figures. I thought I would still give this one a go as it had some interesting figures which I had not seen done before such as Black Panther and Mole Man. I think their quality has improved slightly with this set. There are still a few problems but this set is far better than the Ant-Man one. I have not seen the Fant4stic movie but I have heard terrible things. I was willing to give it a chance but it's hard to bring yourself to watch a movie so universally hated when your time to watch movies is so limited in the first place.
The plastic quality of these figures seem slightly improved since my last run in with them however they are nowhere near the quality of Lego. They look very similar to Lego but the main difference is the legs. The part which connects the legs to the torso is a completely custom design and when looking at the side of the legs you can see that the hips are flat whereas actual Lego hips curve around to match the curvature on the tops of the legs. Each figure comes with a flat black base plate with the OK logo on it and an additional custom design base plate which has a rocky terrain design. There are two different types of this rocky terrain design one is quite flat and the other has a little more rubble on it. There is a bunch of additional bricks but I had no idea what these where supposed to be built into so I'm going to stick to reviewing the minifigures.
Let's start with the leader of the team Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards. Looking at pictures of his costume in the movie I can see what the designer was going for. It looks somewhat like the costume but the printing is a little bit messy. The quality of the print is OK but not the best I've seen and not very sharp. He does have front and back torso printing and printing on his legs which is nice. He has two face prints but they don't really match, the two faces could be two completely different people and they don't look all that fantastic (see what I did there). His hair piece is a custom mold not used by Lego but it mas used on OK's Scott Lang minifigure. The hair piece is OK but the sculpt looks too realistic for Lego in my opinion. This figure is nothing special and is definitely one of my least favorite of the set.
Next we have the powered down version of Johnny Storm The Human Torch. The torso print for this figure is actually quite nice and it does look similar to his movie costume when comparing with pictures. The print is not the sharpest but still looks good. He has front leg printing and printing on the front and back of his torso. Although the flesh tone chosen for him is more accurate than the Sheng Yuan version (which I might also review) of this figure the face print is not nicely done. One of the two faces looks alright but the other is missing print from the eyes. The annoying thing is no hair piece is provided so the double face print looks a bit silly. He also comes with two custom blue flame accessories that can be held. These flames are very different to the official Lego versions and again I think they look a little too realistic to fit in nicely with official Lego.
The powered up version of the Human Torch is nothing we have not seen before. I fell like this is actually a copy of Sheng Yuan's version of the Human Torch from SY167 except without the hair piece and the print is much fainter. Although the trans red/orange of this figure is cool, I am not a huge fan of this design. He has print on the front of his legs and both the front and back of his torso. The face print is very faint and almost looks non existent in some lighting conditions. Similar to the powered down version he has two flame accessories accept in a transparent red colour this time.
The figure of Susan Storm A.K.A The Invisible Woman is probably one of the worst figures in this set. This figure suffers from the same issues as the other figures in this set however this figure is made so much worse due to bad face designs and inaccuracies with the source material. The costume looks fairly similar to the one from the movie but the the hair colour choice is completely wrong. OK decided that to include orange hair rather than a more accurate blonde hair piece. The choice of hair shape is fine but the colour is all wrong. She has two face prints but the both look quite silly. Sillier still are the accessories you get two invisible shields that are not quite invisible. The shield molds are copied from Captain America's shield except these come in transparent blue and transparent red. These shields are quite nicely made but it is a shame that they are not transparent clear which would make much more sense.
The figure of The Thing is again not great. The face and torso print design is mostly copied from a figure of The Thing that Decool released a while back except using a darker coloured plastic. The legs are a new design however giving The Thing some shorts that are similar in design to the rest of the team's costumes. The shorts do not continue onto the side of the legs though which looks a little strange. They have included printing on the back of his head and the back of torso which is a welcome feature. It's nice to see another minifigure version rather than the many bigfig versions that have been released.
The Doctor Doom figure has a design that is mostly copied from the official Lego Doctor Doom. The biggest difference with this figure and the official version in the choice to use a material hood rather than a plastic one. The material hood and jacket is quite nicely designed and is probably the best thing about this figure. The design looks nothing like the version of Doctor Doom that appears in the Fant4stic movie which is a shame after doing a decent job copying the costumes of the heroes from the movie.
Now for one of the more interesting figures of the set Black Panther. From all of the minifigure sets released by all of the copy companies it is hard to believe that this is the first Black Panther to show up. This figure is alright but not great. The torso is nicely designed but the print again is lacking. I think the torso print is copied from the Lego Marvel Super Heroes video game version of Black Panther. I'm not a fan of the face print, there's something about it that does not look quite right. It is possibly the position of the eyes which I think are way too high. I remember seeing a quite nice custom helmet/ mask piece for black panther which might be a nice alternative if like me you are not a fan of the face. His cape is quite interesting as it is actually two pieces. The main piece of the cape is a standard Batman cape and the second is a collar piece. The material used for the cape has a little shine to it and it is nicely made.
Finally the best minifigure in this set in my opinion Mole Man. The design of this minifigure is simple but effective. He has front and back torso print of a simple belt and shoulder strap design. His leg print is limited to solid black on his feet. He has a black slicked back hair piece which looks very similar in design to Mole Man of the comics. The face print is nicely done with a blue mask and a scowling expression although it would have been nice if the mask looked a little closer to the slotted style in the comics. He comes with two red transparent staffs which is not very accurate but easy enough to swap out. The cape is again two pieces and made from a nice green shiny material. I really like this figure, it does have some flaws but nothing too bad and it does represent the character quite well.
In summary this set is not great and I do not recommend people to waste their time with it. If you really want the Fantastic Four in their 2015 movie costumes you are better off going with the Sheng Yuan version which is far superior in many ways. The Doctor Doom figure is nothing special and is easily obtained in official Lego form. The Black Panther figure is really meh and you if you really want this character in minifigure form you are better off waiting for Lego 76047 Black Panther Pursuit which is released later this year. Mole Man is the star of this set but I doubt that he is on many peoples most wanted figure list. If you can get Mole Man separately then do that otherwise it is up to you if you think it is worth getting the whole set just for the one figure.
